Senior Project Engineer/Code 004



The Senior Project Engineer (multiple openings) at Whitehall Specialties, Inc. (n/k/a Ornua (Whitehall) Ingredients, Inc., d/b/a Ornua Ingredients North America) in Whitehall, Wisconsin will utilize project management skills to manage multi-million-dollar capital projects and drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize yield, quality, cycle time and ergonomics.

  • Assist Maintenance in improving machine reliability
  • Assist in New Product Development and Operations Support
  • Lead cross functional teams/projects using Lean Six Sigma and DMAIC methodology
  • Perform line layout, line balancing, and capacity analysis
  • Participate in line installations and existing line alterations to support company growth strategies and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Use AutoCAD drawing skills to make company drawings and make improvements to existing drawings
  • Provide technical training and support to operators and maintenance technicians on various equipment
  • Perform research on new and existing technology, equipment, and tools to improve processes
  • Generate proposals for purchase and implementation of technology, including a payback period with total cost of ownership, NPV, IRR and benefit analysis.
  • Develop process controls for production assets and write standard operating procedures
  • Specify predictive and preventative maintenance strategies, spare parts and calibration requirements to measure, monitor, improve, control and optimize asset life cycles within our manufacturing process and utility systems
  • Evaluate and understand the infrastructure of each facility and recommend future replacement or upgrade strategies to maintain current utility, structural, regulatory and environmental standards within the facilities
  • Provide engineering support during Safe Quality Food and British Retail Consortium audits and lead corrective actions
  • Evaluate the manufacturing assets at each facility and develop long term replacement or upgrade strategies for assets that are approaching the end of their life cycle at current production rates
  • Utilize MS Office tools to effectively manage communications and prepare relevant documentation for senior leadership team, floor leads, and supervisors. Build and maintain a professional network with relevant industry vendors, contractors, and consultants
  • Use data visualization tools to develop and maintain key metrics.
  • Requires up to 20% domestic travel to other¬† Ornua Ingredients (Whitehall Specialties) plants and vendors.


  • Requires a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus one year of plant engineering experience in a Food Industry manufacturing environment.
  • One year of experience must include one year of experience with each of the following:
    • AutoCAD
    • Line layout, line balancing, and capacity analysis
    • Leading continuous improvement teams
    • OSHA guidelines, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) to effectively manage regulatory equipment requirements
    • Managing $1 million+ capital budget
    • Leading packaging development
    • Representing engineering side of audits during Safe Quality Food or British Retail Consortium audits and leading corrective actions.
